Dean and Silva, LLC, established in 2004 by Joel Dean and Glaucio Silva, is a company specializing in high end interiors and custom architectural millwork for residential and commercial projects. Their 8,000 square foot facility is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery along with a team of professionals committed to maintaining high standards, delivering excellent quality, and providing personalized customer service.
Principals Joel Dean and Glaucio Silva are closely involved in the details of every project. Each partner draws upon a foundation of solid skills and knowledge regarding the various trades required to complete a project, and uses this to closely coordinate the execution of a design with their team of managers and contractors. D&S recognizes the importance of clear communication, and of meeting the expectations of their clients and designers.
Joel Dean, Founding Partner
Joel Dean began his career in the building industry as a project supervisor for Wildes Inc., handling diverse projects and a demanding client list running the gamut from a high profile renovation of Madonna Ciccone’s UWS apartment, to the first restaurant lounge in Manhattan’s Meatpacking district called Orient. Prior to opening Dean & Silva, Joel worked for Taocon Inc. as a Project Supervisor. At Taocon, his most notable project was an impeccable modern apartment project in the original Perry Street building by Richard Meier. At Taocon, Joel broadened his experience working with high-end designs, and successfully managed challenging logistics. He brings this extensive experience to Dean & Silva. Joel Dean graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor’s of English, summa cum laude, and resides in Westchester County.
Glaucio Silva, Founding Partner
Glaucio Silva started working with wood as a teenager, learning the craft from his uncles, who were master cabinetmakers in Brazil. He was also tutored under his father, an architect, concerning design principles and practical application. Glaucio has over 20 years of experience in carpentry, woodworking, and construction management. Before opening Dean & Silva, Glaucio was a Project Supervisor for Wildes Inc., and was the Studio Manager for Wilde’s in-house shop, Duke Woodworks. Glaucio brings his wealth of knowledge on all aspects of woodworking and his extensive experience in interior construction to Dean & Silva. Glaucio resides in Queens with his wife and 3 children.
Ted Cohen, Senior Shop Manager, Estimator
Ted Cohen, prior to joining Dean & Silva, owned TC Woodworks, was a partner at Manhattan Custom Woodworking, was Senior Shop Manager at Superior Casework, Project Manager with Herb Blaker, Senior Estimator with NJS, Shop Manager at Michael Bernstein Design Associates, Shop Manager at JF Gillanders in Toronto, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Kent State University. Ted’s unique vision and experience are key to what makes Dean & Silva successful in their woodwork and casework.
Heath Robinson, Project Manager
Heath Robinson, before working at Dean & Silva, was the sole proprietor of a small carpentry and painting company based in Brooklyn. He brings Dean & Silva his talent and knowledge of finishes, stone, tile, and general carpentry, as well as a knack for efficient and effective project management. Heath was a high school math teacher before owning his own business, and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics from St. Michael’s College in Vermont. Heath joined Dean & Silva in 2008.
Trish Phelps, Office Manager, Photographer
Trish Phelps joined Dean & Silva’s team in 2012. In addition to being Dean & Silva’s Office Manager with a background in hospitality, Trish is our resident photographer and web designer, and brings her creativity and enthusiasm to the office on a daily basis. Trish graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Florida Atlantic University.
